Hello, my name is Josiah, and I am the founder of Heirloom Grown. I am a gardener and poultry keeper who has had years of experience.
When I started my garden, I was using conventional methods (synthetic fertilizer, pesticides, etc.). This was before I realized the huge benefits of heirloom seeds and organic gardening.
I have learned so much about organic and heirloom gardening since then. Now I save my own seeds, make my own fertilizer, start my own plants, raise my own chickens, and so much more.
What I enjoy doing
I enjoy working outside in creation whether that be in my garden, chicken coop, or greenhouse. I love growing heirloom plants that have unique characteristics like black tomatoes, mouth numbing flowers, or rainbow-colored popcorn.
In middle of the winter you will find me pouring over seed catalogues and planning the next experiment for my garden. I am committed to raising my animals and growing my garden in a way that closely follows their created order and sharing the knowledge that I gain along the way.
I live in the Great Lakes Region (Zone 5), and I have been gardening in this cold climate for almost a decade. It can be hard finding someone who gardens in this frigid climate and that is why I am here. I want to show you that even though it may be cold up here, it is still possible to grow an amazing garden.
Why Heirloom Grown
I created Heirloom Grown so that I could teach others about the great benefits of using heirloom seeds, animals, and practices on their own properties.
If you are a gardener, homesteader, farmer, plant or animal enthusiast, or just someone who is interested in growing their own food this is the place for you.
I know how hard it can be to find good advice online and that is why I am here. All the pictures on this website are from my own garden. NOTHING on my website was created by the use of AI, every picture and word is genuinely human!
